Autocar readers will remember the article describing Caterhams efforts to improve the aerodynamic qualities of the Seven. We now see the first fruits of that work with the latest two models previewed here.
The new car is larger than the norm for Caterham, being based on a chassis with SV dimensions. Both the 260 and the 200 have inboard front suspension, fully independent rear suspension, and a dry sumped 2.3 litre Duratec based lump fettled by Cosworth (though in different state of tune).
A new deeper nose cone incorporating a chin spoiler reduces front lift at high speed by 50% so improving front grip and reducing understeer. Visible clues to the nose cone changes include a large cooling air exit duct in the upper surface. Not so obvious but of great benefit is the use of a larger radiator which will support racing in hotter countries.
Other changes include reshaped cycle front wings to reduce drag and also chassis improvements that increase torsional stiffness by 25%. There are also changes to the interior styling.
